The MGNREGA programme in Visakhapatnam district is commenced on 1st April, 2008 under phase III. The programme is being implemented in a befitting manner and up to 2017-18 and it is being continued.
Under MGNREGS Programme, earlier community works like Comprehensive restoration of Minor Irrigation tanks, Field and Feeder channels and Land development works are taken up. In addition to the above, as per modified guidelines of MGNREGA various convergence activities are being taken up. In Tribal mandals Land development, water harvesting, afforestation, plantation and SMC works are given top priority for providing sustainable employment & livelihood while creating durable assets.
In the District, 39,243 (SSS Groups) Srama Shakti Sanghams have been formed with members ranging from 10 to 30 by covering 6.52 Lakhs wage seekers. Out of which, 30,149 SSS groups & 3.21 lakh families have demanded work during the financial year 2016-17 and 5.69 wage seekers were provided work.
